My Review

This is the sort of picture book biography you can enjoy at any age - with really beautiful, stylised blue and white illustrations, it's a very modern take on the classic story of Ernest Shackleton's attempt to reach Antarctica. The huge white pages echo the icy expanse around his trapped ship, and brilliant drawings detail each stage of the intrepid expedition. Shackleton's story is one of bravery, outstanding leadership, and great perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. Superbly designed and obviously well researched, with plenty to pore over, it's the perfect book for peaking interest in exploration and adventure in another age.

Heads Up!

There is also an activity book linked with this picture book for children who get really into the story!
